Sunday - 04th October 2009 |
The tourist arrival by air has increasd by 5.5 percent in the month of September this year compared to the same month last year, figures released by Immigration Office, Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA), revealed.
Accoring the the statement, 34,281 foreigners visited Nepal this month. There has been a robust growth of 32 percent in tourist arrivals from China. Similarly, arrivals from Japan, Singapore, South Korea and Thailand have also increased by 25.1 percent, 2 percent, 25 percent and 43.6 percent respectively. The Asian markets to decline in this month were Malaysia (5.4 percent) and Chinese Taipei (3.5 percent). In aggregate the Asian segment has registered a positive growth of 22.5 percent.
In the SAARC region, arrivals from Bangladesh skyrocketed to 1,898 registering positive growth of 245.7 percent. Similarly, Pakistan and Sri Lanka have witnessed positive growth of 8.4 percent and 10.2 percent respectively. However the arrivals from India have decreased by 24 percent compared to the same month last year. In aggregate the South Asian segment has registered a negative growth of 5.7 percent.
An overall positive growth of 8.9 percent has been observed from the European markets with arrivals from UK, Switzerland, and Italy up by 24 percent, 15 percent, and 13.5 percent respectively. However, the arrivals from France, Germany and Spain registered a negative growth of 1.7 percent, 11.6 percent, and 6.6 percent respectively.
Tourist arrivals from Australia, Canada and USA have also registered robust growth of 10.6 percent, 22.5 percent and 21.4 percent respectively. The arrivals from New Zealand has declined by 13.3 percent compared to the same month last year.
This is the fourth consecutive month Nepal has witnessed positive growth in the international tourist arrivals. Recovery in the arrivals to Nepal in the beginning of second half of 2009 is in line with the onset of recovery from recession. As the world economy comes out of the global recession, tourism activities are forecast to expand as a result of rebounding consumer confidence. However, as advanced economies are projected to expand sluggishly, the impact of recovery in tourism sector might be realized slowly.
A total of 30,410 foreign tourists departed from TIA in September 2009. The number of Nepalese arrivals stood at 60,715 while 45,437 Nepalese departed from TIA in September 2009. |
