FBI to help search missing US trekkers

Wednesday - 07th July 2010

US investigation agency – Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) – has stepped in to help ascertain the whereabouts of US trekkers Aubrey Caroline Sacoo (23), who went missing more than two months ago while on a trek to Langtang Region.

Aubrey’s family members are hopeful that the involvement of FBI would help move the case forward.

"The FBI is looking at it and they're saying it is a criminal matter," AOL News quoted Sacco family spokeswoman Aileen Barry as saying. "They've asked us to hold off so they can get their people in line, so we can't say a lot about what they're doing. But honestly we don't know a lot."

Aubrey last contacted to her family members on April 20 when she set out on a week-long trekking. She was scheduled to return to return Kathmandu between April 29 and May 2. She was travelling without any traveling partner and had taken trekkers’ registration card (TIMS Card) meant for free individual trekkers.

Last month, Aubrey’s father Paul Sacco was in Nepal to try to locate his missing daughters. They walked the trails with search teams and even chartered choppers for aerial search. But they couldn’t get any clue.

The FBI is revealing few details to the family, but Barry says they do know agents are reviewing lists of hikers who signed in on the trail around the time Sacco went missing, AOL News said.
