Nepalese tourism promoted in London

Nepal Tourism Board along with Royal Nepalese Embassy made a destination presentation and situation updates on Nepal at Royal Nepalese Embassy amidst media , Tour Operators and other important friends of Nepal on Nov 9, 2004. Speaking on the occasion, HE Ambassador to the United Kingdom - Mr. Prabal SJB Rana said that Nepal and United Kingdom have diplomatic relationship from a very long time and Britain has been helping Nepal ever since. Also on the occasion, Secretary at Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation and the Chairman of Nepal Tourism Board - Mr. Bhoj Raj Ghimire stressed on the liberal policy adopted by the Government especially in the fields of tourism. He also said that tourism's potential is tremendous and we need to fully understand how tourism development would positively impact on augmenting foreign exchange, increasing employment and alleviates poverty. Chief Executive Officer of Nepal Tourism Board Mr. Tek Bahadur Dangi made a destination presentation on Nepal and said that there has been an increment of 20 % from the UK market alone this year and UK has been one of the major markets for Nepalese Tourism. He also said that British tourists have always shown great affinity towards Nepal and would love to be in the land of the Gurkhas. Mr. Dangi also said that Nepal has been a role model for village tourism, eco tourism and adventure sports activities.
The programs was organized coinciding with London's World Travel Market, a premier global travel trade fair attended by exhibitors from more than 150 countries with more than 500 exhibitors. Nepal pavilion was 80 square meters and was represented by twelve Nepalese travel trade entrepreneurs. BBC's recent program titled - The Himalayas created a lot of interest for Nepal and much of the queries from the consumers and the trade where related to trekking and mountaineering. Next year WTM is scheduled to take place at ExCEL- Docklands, London from Nov 14-17.
