Interaction on Tourism Development in Nepal concluded in Kolkata

Nepal Tourism Board and Royal Nepalese Consulate General-Kolkata jointly organised an interaction programme on Tourism Development in Nepal in connection to promote tourism in Nepal on November 20, 2004 in Kolkata.

Addressing the interaction programme, Bhoj Raj Ghimire, Secretary, Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation elaborated the prospect of tourism in Nepal and the role of private sector in promoting and developing tourism. Giving full importance to Indian tourists, he appealed them to visit Nepal without any feeling of insecurity. Explaining the role of tourism in the economic development of Nepal, Mr. Ghimire said that Nepal is a safe destination and requested Indian journalists to inform the Indian people about this aspect of Nepalese tourism. He also said that the government has adopted the policy of eco tourism and explained about the prospect of various tourism activities in Nepal.

Dr. Govida Prasad Kusum, Consul General, Royal Nepalese Consulate General-Kolkata welcoming the media persons and tour operators said that tourism is an integral part of Nepal, and India is a major market for it. He informed that Indian tourists don't need any visa to travel to Nepal and passport or voter ID is enough for them to travel by air.

Elaborating the various promotional programmes organised in different cities of India and abroad, Tek Bahadur Dangi, Chief Executive Officer of Nepal Tourism Board said that this kind of promotional activity has yielded positive result in bringing more tourists in Nepal despite of some problems that Nepal is facing right now. He further said that tourists can travel any part of the country without hesitation. Mr. Dangi informed the media about the various package floated to Indian tourists from different cities of India saying that NTB is working with Indian Airlines to float same kind of package from Kolkata. Reviewing the different events took place recently in Nepal, he said as His Majesty's Government has adopted a policy to celebrate Golden Jubilee Anniversary of accent on the Himalayan peaks above 8000 meters, Nepal celebrated the Golden Jubilee Anniversary of Ascent on Mt. Cho Oyu which was attended summitters represnting various countries. He also brought them in notice that Nepal is also famous for trekking, rafting, pilgrimage, cultural and leisure tours. He informed them that a FAM tour is being organised for travel and tour operators of Kolkata to give them first hand information about the current situation of Nepal.

Moderated by Deputy Consul General, Royal Nepalese Consulate General-Kolkata, queries made by media and tour operators were addressed by Mr. Ghimire and Dangi. More than forty media persons and tour operators attended the interaction including India's leading media like Zee TV, The Statesmen, The Telegraph, The Times of India, Pravad, The Hindustan Times, The Asian Age, etc.
