Sunday - 24th April 2011 |
KATHMANDU: A team of civil servants that is on an expedition to scale Mt Everest is all set to head for first camp after acclimatising for 15 days at the base camp.
On Friday, Chief Secretary Madhav Prasad Ghimire, Secretary at the Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation Kishor Thapa and Secretary at the Office of the Prime Minister Trilochan Upreti paid the team a visit to take stock of the health condition of its members.
“The members are in good health and are determined to reach the top of the world,” said Tourism Secretary Thapa.
“However, one of the members is suffering from altitude sickness and is receiving treatment at the camp itself.”
The expedition was organised by the Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation with the aim to gather information on the impact of climate change in the Himalayan region and promote the spirit of adventure among civil servants.
The team is being led by Lila Mani Paudel, Secretary at the Office of the Prime Minister and has Durga Bhattarai, Joint Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Laxman Bhattarai, Joint Secretary at the Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation, among others as members.
Out of 15 members in the team, nine successfully scaled Iceland Peak, which is 6,168 metres high, last week before heading to the base camp. The team is also scheduled to participate in the Everest clean-up campaign. |
