12th anniversary of first ascent of Mt Everest by Nepali woman marked

The 12th anniversary of the first ascent of the world’s highest peak—Mt. Everest—by a Nepali woman was marked with a variety of programmes in the capital on April 23, 2005.
Organised by the Pasang Lhamu Mountaineering Foundation, various personalities, including Parshu Narayan Chaudhary, Chairman of the Raj Parishad Standing Committee, offered garlands and floral bouquets at to the statue of late Pasang Lhamu Sherpa. Late Sherpa was the first Nepali woman to climb Mt. Everest.
Established in memory of the national luminary, the foundation has been carrying out various activities in the fields of education, environment, health and tourism promotion.
The foundation is working out plans to start education programmes in the remote Karnali zone in the near future.

Meanwhile, A total of 53 persons donated their blood amidst a programme organized to mark the 12th anniversary of the first ascent of Mt. Everest by Nepali woman late Pasang Lhamu Sherpa here today.
The blood donation programme was organized by the Pasang Lhamu Mountaineering Foundation. Those donating their blood were members of the foundation, travel trade entrepreneurs and local people living in the vicinity areas of the foundation secretariat at Dhumbarahi.
Late Sherpa, one of the national luminaries of Nepal, had lost her life while climbing down from the top of Mt. Everest in spring in 1993.
