At the initiation of NTB's Honorary Public Relation's Representative in South Korea, Nepal Tourism Board invited a special issue writer Mr. Dong-woo Chung Donga Daily News), Seoul Korea for a familiarization trip of Nepal between August 30 and September 4, 2005. Janai Purnima at Rasuwa
Janai Purnima, on the full moon day of August, is a time crammed with festivities. It is the day, which marks the annual changing of the sacred thread, a yellow cotton string worn about the neck and underarm beneath the clothing especially by Brahmins. People flock to Gosainkunda, the beautiful lake, twenty-five miles north of Kathmandu, to observe this festival. For this festival, thousands of pilgrims trek, sometimes from great distances and for several days, to attend the religious mela or fair.
Deepak Joshi and Bimal Kandel who recently visited Gosaikunda on Janai Purnima write about their experience,"The journey to Gosaikunda is adventurous right from Kathmandu . Motor road to Dhunche is very bumpy, with innumerable bends, and fearfull landslides. We have to climb about 2.5km up and about 14 hours walk to reach Gosaikunda (4298m) from Dhunche (aprox. 1800m). Colorful human caravan, thousands of people en route, gives us immense pleasure and shares unique experience with mystique nature. Despite the fear of leech and high altitude sickness.................the journey becomes lifetime memorable."
