Nation marks World Tourism Day with fanfare

World Tourism Day has been observed throughout the country today with the slogan "Travel & Transport: From the imaginary of Jules Verne to the reality of the 21st Century "organizing various events and programmes.
According to a press statement issued by the Nepal Tourism Board (NTB), Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Buddhi Raj Bajracharya and other high officials of Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation and Nepal Tourism Board honoured George Dauster of Germany, the first passenger to disembark from the Qatar Airways and other tourists coming from same airlines with garlands.
Minister Bajracharya handed over the plaque and certificate to highest foreign currency earners in hotel, travel agency, trekking agency and airlines category for fiscal year 2061/62 in a programme organised at the NTB.
Minister Bajracharya also gave away prizes to the winner of 6th Nationwide Essay Competition for Secondary, Higher Secondary and Bachelors, 3rd Nationwide Project Writing and Presentation Competition and winners of the Travel Writer of the Year 2005.
Similarly, Thamel Tourism Festival is being organized by the Thamel Tourism Development Committee to mark the day with musical programmes and food festivals. Himalayan Youth and Student Forum (HYSEF) organized the Hiking programme in Shivapuri, Immidiate Past President of Trekking Agents Association of Nepal (TAAN), Mr. Deepak Mahat also participated as the guest in the programme. About 100 people were participants including the students of KATH and NATHM to mark the occassion.
Tourists were also felicitated in Basantpur (Hanumandhoka) to mark the day.
In Pokhara, tourism entrepreneurs greeted tourists coming from different flights at the airport. Tourists were also felicitated at Bhairahawa Airport, Janakpur Airport and tourists entering to Nepal from different checkpoints namely Belahiya, Kodari, Nepalgunj, Gaddachowki-Kanchanpur and Kakarvitta, the statement added.
In the morning, Nepal Association of Tour and Travel Agents organised a Mountain Bike Rally from Kathmandu to Patan to Kathmandu to mark the Day.
Lasata Bhoya-a traditional Newari food festival and cultural presentation is being organised at NTB to celebrate this occasion.
Free entrance to for the visitors has been given at the National Ethnographic Museum and all other museums including the International Mountain Museum-Pokhara.
