Joint participation of NTB & RNAC at PATA Travel Mart (PTM) 2005

Nepal Tourism Board & Royal Nepal Airlines Corporation received positive response at PTM 05, from the buyers of various countries reflecting their increased confidence in Nepal as a safe and secure holiday destination. NTB participated in PATA Travel Mart 2005 (PTM05) along with RNAC, which was held from 27th to 30th September in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The Mart was also attended individually by 4 other travel trade companies from Nepal: Shangrila Hotels, Yeti Travels, Everest Express Travels and Tours and Dharma Adventures. This year the Mart concluded with a total of 375 global buyers, representing 339 organizations from 54 countries on hand to meet 704 seller delegates representing 307 travel organizations from 37 countries.
There is an 8.7% increase in buyer delegates, representing 20% more countries this year. On the seller side there was strong growth in representation from various tourism boards. Besides NTB and the host country board - Tourism Malaysia, various other tourist boards/authorities from India, Singapore, Thailand, Hong Kong, Macau, Australia, Sri Lanka Egypt, Brunei etc participated in the Mart. Total of 134 media delegates from 97 media organisations from 27 countries attended the Mart to attend media briefings & to cover and highlight the Mart events. Minister of Tourism Mr. Toyd while welcoming all the PATA delegates, remarked about overwhelming increase in tourist arrivals in the Asia Pacific region. In his opening speech, PATA President and CEO Mr. Peter de Jong cited PATA's continued successful repositioning of the Mart and acknowledging the strong strategic support from Tourism Malaysia and Malaysia Airlines as contributors to the success of the 2005 Mart. He further added, "This year we've seen continued growth in buyers who are the people who send business and tourists to Asia Pacific.
The Mart has also grown in stature with both buyers and sellers stressing the Marts first-rate networking environment." He reminded buyers and sellers that there had been a record number of international arrivals to Asia Pacific last year. As one of the regular event of the Mart, media briefing on Nepal's growing soft adventure potential as well as the increased accessibility in South East Asia region was also arranged at the venue on 29th September 2005. The briefing was addressed by Mr. Deepak Dhital, Charge de Affairs, Royal Nepalese Embassy, Malaysia, Mr. K. B. Poudyal, Deputy Managing Director of Royal Nepal Airlines, Mr. Praveen Pandey, Chairman PATA Nepal Chapter and Mrs. Ujjwala Dali, Manager - Tourism Marketing & Promotion, NTB. Mrs. Dali welcomed the media on behalf of Nepalese delegation and briefed the media about the increased arrivals to Nepal from South East Asia during the past year acknowledging also the record growth of 80%, in Indian Arrivals, and 82% from South East Asian countries with Bangladesh showing a rapid increase of 186% for the month of August.
The positive gesture shown by RNAC by reducing the airfare on various sectors as well as recently launched operations on various sectors by Air Nepal and Cosmic Air have also further strengthened the connectivity between South East Asia and Nepal, she added. She further informed that NTB plans to take initiative to bring forth joint package programs with all the airlines, which will definitely boost up Nepalese tourism in international markets. NTB and RNAC's persistent efforts for destination coverage in various print and electronic media through advertisements and numerous familiarization trips seem to have helped in neutralizing the negative image of Nepal abroad. The rising confidence of visitors towards Nepal was significantly reflected during the business sessions of the Mart. Mr. Deepak Dhital portrayed Nepal as the secure destination and highlighted the promising confidence among the tourists to visit Nepal.
He added the festive season ahead in Nepal as well as in Malaysia with their greatest festivals- Dashain and Ramadan will bring favourable days for tourism. He further informed the recent decision by Nepal government to make Malaysian currency convertible would definitely facilitate the visiting tourist. Mr. Poudyal from RNAC highlighted the significant role RNAC has been playing in joining South East Asia and Nepal and in promoting Nepalese tourism in the region for the past few years. He informed the media about RNACs present operations to 10 international destinations in South East/Far East Asia and the Middle East. In domestic operations, it connects more than 27 destinations inside Nepal, he added. Mr. Pandey wrapped up the briefing session by highlighting Nepal as premier holiday Destination. Discussing about the new developments and tourism products in Nepal, he sighted the new adventure options as well as possibility of having second International Airport in Nepal. Finally the media briefing ended with the multi media presentation giving a visual tour about the mystical kingdom of Nepal.
