Nepal elected as UNESCO executive member

Kathmandu, 15 Oct: Nepal has been elected as the member of the UNESCO executive board for the period of four years (2006-2009) in election held on 14 October during the ongoing 33 rd session of UNESCO General Conference in Paris.

With Nepal, India, Japan, China, Fiji and Kirgyzstan have also been elected from the Asian group, reported The Rising Nepal.

Nepal had lost the same election last year.

Meanwhile, the 29 th session of the Colombo Plan Council held in Colombo, Sri Lanka, held on 11 October unanimously elected Nepal to preside over the Colombo Plan Council for the period of 2005-06 on the proposal of the Republic of Korea which was supported by the Islamic Republic of Iran.
