Tourists rescued, trekking resumes in Manang
Wednesday - 26th October 2005 |
Tourists stranded at Tilicho Lake have been rescued and trekking has resumed parts of Manang with clear weather in the district for the last couple of days.
Tourists stranded at Tilicho Lake have been rescued with the help of local people and flown out by helicopter, The Manang Youth Society (MYS) said. Tourist traffic continues on the Annapurna circuit. Tourists whose treks have been cut short by the recent weather are returning to Kathmandu via Besisahar, while others are continuing to walk up to Manang in the hope of crossing the Thorong Pass to reach Jomsom.
While news about stranded trekkers and climbers in Nar and Phu, the northernmost outposts of Manang, could not be confirmed, telephones in Humde (977-19-442000), Braga (977-19-442003) and Pisang (977-19-442001) are operating. The Manang village phone is intermittent (977-19-442009), the MYS said.
Though the snow is melting, it will take some time for planes to resume regular flights. nepalnews.com dr Oct 26 05
