Rare species of monkey found in Nepal

A rare species of monkey has been found in a wild life reserve in eastern Nepal, an official at the reserve said in Kathmandu.

“A rare Nilgiri species of monkey has been found in Koshi Tappu Wild Life Reserve (KTWLR), some 400 km southeast of Kathmandu,” Ram Chandra Kandel, warden at KTWLR, told reporters.

Nilgiri falls in the category of rare wild life in the world, Kandel revealed.

“The monkey might have entered Nepal via the forests of West Bangal of India or escaped from a hunter when being brought to be sold”, Kandel said.

Nilgiri, living in 2,000 metres above the sea level, is found in very few numbers in Maharastra Jungles of Karnataka in India, he added.
