International Organization for Migration opens office in Nepal

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) Tuesday formally opened its office in the Nepali capital Kathmandu.
Addressing a function to mark the inauguration, Regional Residential Representative of the IOM for South Asia Shahid-ul Haque said, "The new IOM office, in collaboration with the government and civil society, will encourage positive migration for the economic development of Nepal."
Haque further informed that the newly opened office will serve as a liaison office in the beginning and will start to serve as a full phased office in the near future.
With Nepal, IOM, a United Nations affiliated organization, has established its 292nd office worldwide and is expected to work with the Nepali government to enhance its migration management capacity and to help it to address irregular migration issues including human trafficking.
With 118 members, IOM has been promoting humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all through provision of services and advice to governments and migrants.
