Peace boosts Nepal as safe tourist destination

KATHMANDU, Dec. 31: Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Pradip Kumar Gyawali has said the ' Visit Pokhara Year-2007' has been scheduled in order to disseminate the message that Nepal is a peaceful and safe tourist destination.

Addressing the programme organised on the occasion of the Eighth Anniversary of the Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) here today, Minister Gyawali said a study is undergoing to change the Tourism Council so as to make the tourism sector more effective by involving private sectors and restructuring it.

Stating that the New Regulation has been brought to make conducive environment to the domestic airlines-companies so that they can have flights in foreign countries as well, Minister Gyawali pointed out the need of increasing the number of tourists by four-times in order to alleviate poverty and boost economy.

Vice-Chairman of the National Planning Commission (NPC) Dr. Jagadish Chandra Pokhrel said the message that the peace has been restored in Nepal should be disseminated for the tourists across the world and they should be attracted to observe the Constituent Assembly polls since Nepal has, as a practice, adopted it to resolve the conflict in 21st century.

Chairman of the NTB and Secretary of the Ministry Madhav Ghimire said the Visit Pokhara Year-2007 has been organised to give the fruits of the tourism sector to the villages as well and develop sustainable tourism.

At the programme, Chief Executive Officer of the NTB Tek Bahadur Dangi and Director Subash Niraula focused the works accomplished by the NTB for promoting tourism and to touristic heritage.

The NTB, which was established as a partnership institution of the Government and the Private Companies in 1999, has been conducting various tourism fairs along with disseminating information about the tourism destinations of Nepal in national and international sectors.
