UN to lock up Nepal weaponsMonday - 08th January 2007 |
| 8th January 2007: United Nations arms monitors are beginning work in Nepal, two months after a peace agreement ended civil conflict there. Based at first in Kathmandu and the western city of Nepalganj, the two monitoring teams will visit seven camps recently established to accommodate the Maoist rebels' army. Next week, the UN monitors will begin locking up rebel weapons in special containers, as part of the rebels' agreement to join an interim government. Nepal's army will have the same number of its weapons locked up. |
