All police posts to be restored by Jan 14

Friday - 12th January 2007

KATHMANDU, Jan 11 - Home Minister Krishna Prasad Sitaula on Thursday said that all police posts across the country will be reinstated by the end of this Nepali month (Jan 14).

Minister Sitaula in a meeting of the Parliamentary State Affairs Committee said that the Chief District Officers of all the districts have been given the responsibility to reinstate police posts after finding a political understanding among all the parties in the district otherwise the local administration will take the initiative.
Minister Sitaula also informed that 607 police posts have been reinstated. Sitaula said that since several police posts were destroyed during the insurgency, in some places the administration has rented houses to establish police posts.

Prior to the decade-old armed conflict, there were 1900 police posts across the nation.

Meanwhile, Sitaula made it clear that the responsibility to bring the Jantantrik Terai Mukti Morcha to the talks table has not been given to the CPN-Maoist as stated by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Health Amik Sherchan. The DPM yesterday had said that the responsibility to bring the JTTM to the talks table was given to the CPN-M by the government. Stating that the eight parties would clearly start to resolve the issue, Minister Sitaula said that until now no party has been handed this responsibility.
