Registration, authentication of Maoist army in two camps underway at brisk pace
Thursday - 18th January 2007 |
Chitwan, Jan 18 - The registration process of Maoist army and arms is underway at the third and fourth divisional cantonment sites Shaktikhor of Chitwan and Arun Khola of Nawalparasi.
The UN monitors began registration and authentication process of the Maoist army yesterday which is to be followed by arms storage process.
Only a few could be registered yesterday because other technical operations like camera and computer set up consumed huge chunk of time, however, the registration process is being carried out briskly today, said Maoist third division commander at Shaktikhor, Chitwan, Bibidh.
Sources said, 354 Maoist PLAs were registered yesterday.
Meanwhile, a team of monitors that is deployed in one of the main camps situated at Jhyaltung Danda of Arunk Khola, Nawalparasi informed that it aims to finish registration of around 1,000 Maoist PLAs by this evening. The team yesterday could register only 200 Maoist army men here.
According to a member of the interim taskforce – that is on round-the-clock duty of monitoring – since it was cumbersome to register both the army men and weapons simultaneously, the monitoring team was currently concentrating on registration of Maoist PLAs only. Once registration of the Maoist army is over, the monitoring team will begin registration and authentication process of the weapons.
On Monday, the UN team, led by Ian Martin's military advisor General Jan Erik Wilhelmsen, had completed an inspection of final logistics preparations for arms registration at Shaktikhor cantonment site in Chitwan.
After the completion of final logistical preparation, the arms and army registration and authentication process at the remaining five divisional cantonment sites is likely to commence early next week. |
