Steps to prevent climate change emphasised

KATHMANDU, Jan. 17: Concerned experts have stressed on the need of high alert and precautions as the forest and bio-diversity, agriculture and public health would be affected directly with water sources drying up in Nepal as well because of worldwide climate change.
The temperature of the earth was decreased at the rate of 0.06 degree Celsius from 1977- 1994 because of increasing green house emission and it will increase at the rate of 12 degree by 2030.
The workshop stressed that the increase will cause low or high rainfall and landslides and other natural disasters and can cause effect more in developing countries like Nepal and precautions should be taken to survive this.
The workshop jointly organised by the World Bank (WB), Department of Hydrology and Meteorology and Winrock International, Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Environment, Science and Technology Khumraj Punjali informed about formulation of climate change policies, and clean development mechanism.
At the programme, Deputy Director General Dr Keshav Prasad Sharma and Jagadiswor Karmacharya of the Department, Bill Rahil of WB, Samir Karki of Winrock International, Dr. Kamal Rijal of ICIMOD and Dinanath Bhandari of Practical Action presented working papers on possible accidents and precautions to be made to survive this. |
