Unleash yourself in Nepal over the weekend

Friday - 19th January 2007

Friday January 19 2007 07:22 IST: With peace returning to Nepal after the recent agreement with the Maoists protestors, the Nepal Tourism Board has launched a full-fledged campaign to attract tourists from Chennai and down South.

The Board has been organising a series of road shows to make the best out of a booming tourism industry back home. Nepal Tourism Board’s Director (Tourism Marketing and Promotion) Nandini Lahe-Thapa was in Chennai on Thursday to promote the new brand ‘Naturally Nepal - Once is Not Enough.’

‘‘We have declared 2007 as a ‘Visit Pokhara Year’. Pokhara is a spectacular destination in our country, which receives more than one-fourth of the total number of tourists visiting Nepal every year.

We offer special packages to unleash yourself over ‘100% Party Weekends’, ‘Romantic Weekends’, ‘Energising Weekends’, ‘Adventure Weekends’, ‘Spiritual Weekends’ and ‘Family Weekends’. Each of these come with specialised micro packages,’’ she told journalists.

The ‘Romantic Weekends’ include sub packages like ‘Heavenly Honeymoon Weekends’, ‘Awesome Dirty Weekends’, ‘Kiss and Make Up Weekends’, and ‘Incomparable Anniversary Weekends’.

Likewise, under the ‘100% ‘Party Weekends’ one could choose ‘Wild Stag Weekends’, ‘Girls Only Weekends’ or ‘International Festivals’. ‘‘We also offer to take tourists on mountain flights,’’ she added.

As much as 33 percent of tourists touching base in Nepal is from India. ‘‘South Indian food including uthappam and dosa are popular among the people in Nepal. We also share cultural similarities and some our guides speak Tamil and Malayalayam. So you will feel at home,’’ Thapa said.
