Verification of arms awaits new formFriday - 26th January 2007 |
| CHITWAN, Jan. 25: The verification of the Maoist militias and the storage of their arms that had stopped Tuesday failed to resume even today despite an agreement between the Maoist chairman Prachanda and the UN Secretary General's Personal Representative Ian Martin Wednesday. The verification form of the United Nations was prepared for including the name of the user of the arms while storing them, but Prachanda and Martin had agreed to list the arms in the name of the Maoist division while putting them in the storage containers. The verification might be postponed until a new form is prepared. There was disagreement after the UN team pressed for labeling the arms with the users' name but the Maoists had pressed for their group's name on the sticker for storage. Maoists' commander of the 3rd Division, Abiral said the verification could not resume today because of the technical reason. The verification process of the Maoists' Third Division had started 8 days ago and verification of the 60 per cent Maoist militias had been completed. There are more than 6,000 Maoist militias under the 3rd division. |
