'Nepal: safe holiday destination'

KATHMANDU, Feb 6: Nepal participated in the FITUR Fair 2007 held at Madrid in Spain from 31st January to 4th February under the aegis of the Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) and Nepal Association of Travel and Tour Agents (NATTA).

Queen of Spain, Sofia inaugurated the fair. NTB interacted with tour operators, media personnel and visitors and provided brochures and CDs and made DVD presentation based on the theme of 'Naturally Nepal Once is not Enough'. Nepal stalls also provided tour packages and travels information with the onset of local holidays and seasonal holidays.

Sarbottam Lal Shrestha and Hari Sharma, representatives of NATTA, Shradha Shrestha and Samir Shrestha from NTB, Anil Pathak, general manager of Soaltee Crown Plaza, Bhupendra Man Pradhan, MD-Vista travels and tours, Chandra Niraula, MD of Independent Himalayan Adventure, Anil Agrawal, MD of Nebuti Travels and Tours, Hira Dhamala, MD of Karnali Excursions, Shree Man Pradhan, MD of Insight Travels and tours, Ganesh Neupane, MD of Monterosa Treks and Expedition and Bhagirath Pratap Singha, GM of Explore Himalaya Travel and Adventure participated in the Fair FITUR 2007.

"It was a good opportunity for the Nepalese travel and trade companies to promote Nepal at the Fair as almost everybody visiting the Fair knew about the improved political situation about Nepal and the end of Maoist insurgency," said on NTB press release issued today.

The participants said that a large number of journalists also showed their interests in coming to Nepal and featuring Nepal as one of the upcoming holiday destinations for the Spanish travelers.
'They seem to be very positive about visiting the country as well'.

FITUR celebrated the 27th year and it is one of the biggest travel exhibitions in Europe catering to the global tourism as well as the Spanish market.

There are a total of 845 exhibitors from 170 countries showcasing their products in the fair. The organisers expected that around 150000 individuals including trade professionals as well as local consumers would visit.
