Nuwakot set to host tourism festivalWednesday - 07th February 2007 |
| KATHMANDU, Feb. 6: Nuwakot is set to play host to its first tourism festival from 9 to 13 February with a view to introducing tourists to various sites of natural, economic, religious and cultural importance. All preparations necessary for the event is almost complete, according to festival organizers. In this connection, the Nepali Army has taken up clean- up programme in and around Bidur Municipality are and Trishuli river bank. Being related to life and bravery of king of Shah dynasty, Late king Prithavi Narayan Shah, Nuwakot is historically famous place depicting various aspects of life there including its glorious history. The festival is aimed at protecting local art and culture while improving economic standard of the district. The major attractive sites for tourists in Nuwakot include seven-storey palace, Rangmahal Palace, Devighat, Bhairabi temple, Nateswori, Panchakanya, Dupcheswor, Betrabati, Trishuli river, Likhu river, Kakani and Trishuli Bazar etc. Co-ordinator of Main function committee, Sharan Sapkota Utsuk expressed his hope that the festival would be a success in materializing the concept of ' one village and one product.". While an alternative trekking routes to Himalay Lamtang via Nuwakot has been identified, another trekking route from Buthnilkantha of Kathmandu to Satale Durbar and Gosaikunda have been identified, according to concerned person related to tourism through alternative trekking route, Deepak Mahat . Nuwakot holds various attractions for visitors. The festival would offer a brotherhood and friendship culture of local community as well as local culture of bull fighting competition.Various cultural dances will be presented on the occasion while Newari food festival and mountain bike competition will be organized. During festival, artists and sculptors of Kathamndu are also set to present their works of art. There will also be gathering of litterateurs at a function. Boating from Pairbesi of Rasuwa to Devighat and hospitality services to visitors are another major attraction for tourists. Various informative books on Nuwakot will be published at the initiative of festival assistance committee under the main function committee, it is learnt.
