NTB takes part in trade show at Berlin

The Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) along with other 15 private sector participants took part in the world's leading trade show at the Berlin Exhibition Grounds, Berlin, Germany from 7 to 11 March, said an NTB press statement today.

Visitors obtained a complete view of everything currently on offer from the travel industry. A total of 10,923 companies from 184 countries and territories represented their tourism attractions on a display area measuring some 160,000 square metres, ranging from service providers such as hotels and airlines to tour operators, and individual countries and regions. The NTB made a presentation 'Naturally Nepal' at the fair organised by the ICC Berlin. World Renowned Climber Mr. Wolfgang Nairz made a special presentation on Nepal on the occasion. More than 70 media and trade attended the function.

Speaking on the occasion, Secretary of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Madhav Prasad Ghimire said, "Germany has always remained not only as a major donor and development partner of Nepal, but also a major tourist generating market."

He said that love and affection shown by the Germans towards Nepal is praiseworthy in all spectrums of development initiatives.

"Nepal is indebted to Germany as Nepal's first tourism master plan was prepared by German experts under the assistance of Government of Germany."

He further elaborated that peace had returned to Nepal after the popular movement ushered in a new democratic regime for the benefit of larger section of the society. "With the advent of democracy in the country and promulgation of Interim Constitution, travel-tourism sector was geared up to bounce back in tourism map of the world with greater zeal and enthusiasm."

With the permanent peace and stability right at a breath away, Nepal is embracing all kinds of social, economical and political agendas to keep country's economic prosperity on the track focusing particularly on tourism, he added.

Nepal's presentation depicting the various tourism attraction of the country was made during the program. Nepalese ambassador Madan Kumar Bhattarai also ensured about the safety and security situation in the changed context of Nepal.

NTB felicitated Nairz and Dil Gurung, Honorary PRR of NTB during the program for their outstanding support and co-operation extended towards the tourism promotion of Nepal.

Earlier, the huge inaugural ceremony of ITB took place at ICC on March 6. Nepalese delegation to ITB 2007 was led by Madhav Prasad Ghimire, Secretary, Ministry of Culture, Tourism & Civil Aviation and Chairman, Nepal Tourism Board.

Ghimire visited Nepal pavilion at ITB where 15 travel-trade business houses participated under the NTB banner. He met with people from media and travel trade and informed them about the rejuvenated state of tourism in Nepal. He also met with the CEO of Qatar Airways, Al Baker, President of UNWTO, Francisco Frangialli and CEO of PATA, Mr. Peter de Jong. Bilateral tourism issues were extensively discussed during the meetings.

Asian Trekking, Destination Bandipur, Dharma Adventure, Dwarika's Hotel Euro Asia Tours & Travels, Hotel de l'Annapurna, Kathmandu Experience Travels & Tours, Monterosa Treks & Expedition. Nature Trail Trekking Nepal Trailblazer Trekking, Soaltee Crowne Plaza, South Asian Holidays The Explore Nepal, The Malla Hotel and Yeti Travels participated in the show.

Ghimire also paid courtesy call on Thomas Wrinsig, Member of Parliament and head of South Asia Division, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, FDR of Germany. On the occasion he appraised Wrinsig of the current socio-economic and political situation in Nepal.
Other issues of socio-economic and bi-lateral co-operation between the two countries were also discussed on the occasion.
