Apa Coming This Week for 17th Everest ClimbTuesday - 27th March 2007 |
| Apa Sherpa, who holds the record of climbing Mt Everest for 16 times, is returning to Nepal this week for another climb, news reports from the US, Apa’s new home, said. Apa and his family now live in Utah. He will be a leader on an expedition to raise awareness and money for sherpas, the men who haul gear up Nepal's mountains for climbers. Sherpa said he wants to help Nepalis receive an education and other opportunities he never had. "This time I am a little more excited to go," he said. Sherpa, his wife and three children moved to Utah in 2006. Apa Sherpa's wife, Yangjin, said she hopes her husband reaches the summit, returns safely and climbs Everest "no more." |
