New Year 2064 being celebrated; PM says nation has entered new, democratic age

The Nepali New Year 2064 was celebrated across the nation in the spirit of mutual reconciliation, peace, harmony and prosperity on Saturday.
Tourist spots were jam packed with people celebrating the new Nepali year.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala, in his New Year's message to the Nepalis, said that the nation has entered into a new democratic age with new and epoch-making changes.
The PM's new year message further said, "We should move ahead dedicating our skills, our strengths and abilities to build the nation and take it forward,” expressing hope that the New Year 2064 will be a harbinger of peace, stability and development in the country.
Similarly, in his message on the occasion, CPN-UML General Secretary Madhav Kumar Nepal said that the responsibility to establish an inclusive democracy for state restructuring while remembering the role played by the martyrs of the April uprising has fallen onto the shoulders of all Nepalese.
Nepali Congress-Democratic president Sher Bahadur Deuba said that the new year would inspire all to hold an impartial election to the constituent assembly.
Likewise, Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) chairman Pashupati Rana expressed hope that the new year would see a restructured state to include Madhesis, Dalits, indigenous nationalities, women and the backward communities in the party's new year's message. |
