Dulal wins first Langtang Bike race

Suresh Kumar Dulal has won the first Langtang-Tamang Trail Mountain Bike Competition held today at the Langtang area of the Rasuwa District.
Dulal completed the 28 kilometers of the rugged terrain in 2 hours, 11minutes 47.32 seconds to finish first among the 21 bikers. Dulal pocketed Rs. 25,000 in cash prize. Surendra Rai who completed the race with a timing of 2:11: 47.71 came to the second position. He won a cash prize of Rs. 15,000 for finishing the race as runner-up. Padma Chombahang finished third to grab Rs. 10,000.
Among the two women participants, Nirjala Tamrakar became first and won Rs. 8000 biker Kelly Bowma received Rs. 5000 for having finished second.
Earlier, Britain's Ambassador to Nepal, Andrew Hall, inaugurated the race at a colourful function. The Himalayan Expedition in cooperation with Tourism organized the race for Rural Alleviation Programme had organized the race.
According to the organizers, the race, that passed through the beautiful Tamang settlements at the Langtang areas, situated at the district of Rasuwa, was aimed at promoting tourism through the adventure sports.
The race is also expected to attract more tourists towards the Langtang areas, still in want of more tourists despite its beautiful landscape and ethnicity. The organisation such events at the touristically important place such as Langtang areas, where the majority of Tamang clan live, may also help alleviate the poverty among the ethnic people of the areas, the organizers said.
