Everest Marathon organizers congratulate RokaTuesday - 19th August 2008 |
| The Organizing Committee of Tenzing-Hillary Everest Marathon has extended its congratulations to Hari Rokaya for his outstanding performance of putting his name in the Guinness Book of World Records. Guinness Book of World Records have identified Rokaya's feat as the world record timing for the marathon run in the highest altitude in the world. The committee also awarded a cash of Rs 10,000 and a certification of congratulation to Rokaya. Tenzing Hillary Everest Marathon is held every year on May 29 to commemorate the successful first ascent of Mt. Everest in 1953 by Tenzing Norgay Sherpa and Sir Edmund Hillary. The marathon is run from Everest Base Camp at the height of 5364m to Namche bazaar. Hari Rokaya, then 36 years old, had completed the marathon in 3hrs 50 min and 23 in November 2000 beating his own timing of 1999. |
